Legislation to lower the voting age to 16
There are currently two pieces of legislation in the Washington state legislature that proposes to lower the voting age. One of them is a legislative bill and another is a constitutional amendment. The bills are House Bill 2305 and House Joint Resolution 4213.
The bills had a public hearing on Friday, April 8th during which time three members from NYRA-Olympia testified in favor of them. An audio record of the hearing can be found at http://www.tvw.org/MediaPlayer/Archived/REAL. cfm?EVNum=2005041030&TYPE=A
The hearing went well but comes to late to be voted on during this year's legislative session. However, the bills did generate a fairly substantial amount of press including articles in; The Seattle Post-Intelligencer, The Seattle Times, The News Tribune, The Olympian, The Corvallis Gazette Times, and The Spokesman Review among others. Please take a look at the article.
